80% Of Kids Under 10 Got This Logic Puzzle Right Instantly But Most Adults Have No Freakin’ Clue – Can You Solve It?

National Geographic featured the following puzzle as part of their “Brain Games TV” series and found that 80% of children under the age of 10 were able to come up with the right answer instantly, whereas most adults stared at it, stared at it some more, then either made up some pseudo-intellectual bullshit to try and sound smart or punched the smug dude administering the puzzle in the face.

The question is as follows:

Which way is this yellow bus going, left or right?

As you’ve hopefully noticed, both ends of the bus are identical so that you can’t tell which is the front and which is the back. Are you stumped? Confounded? Getting ready to drive over to my house and punch me in the face?

Let’s not resort to violence, people. I’ll just give you the answer:

The correct answer is that – if you’re in the UK – the bus is travelling to the right. And the key to solving the puzzle is the fact that you can’t see the passenger doors.

This means they must be on the other side of the bus, and if you’re in the UK where people drive on the left side of the road this means the bus is going right. The opposite applies in the US and other countries where people drive on the right – and the bus would be travelling on the left.(via)

I hope your immediate reaction to reading that answer was “That’s dumb. This was dumb. I’m a smart person and this bus is dumb and this whole thing is dumb and I hate it all I don’t care WHATEVER,” because frankly that was my response and ideally I’m not the only idiot in the room who didn’t figure that out. Not that I really tried, mind you – but even if I had I probably still would’ve failed. If you failed too, that makes us FAIL BUDDIES.

“Yayyyyyyyy” – No One Ever.
