Marines In San Diego Are Being Investigated For Threatening To Shoot Up A Gay Bar

Less than a week after the worst mass shooting in American history, two marines in California are being investigated for threatening to shoot up a gay bar.

The threat comes in the form of a picture posted to a private Facebook group, and it shows a man holding a rifle with the caption “Coming to a gay bar near you.”

See for yourself.

Is this probably just a really, really, really, really, really, really, poor joke and not a real threat?

Yea.

But it ain’t fucking cool.

From the New York Daily News:

The post was made to Camp MENdleton resale, a closed Facebook group of 25,000 members meant for those around the Marine Corps’ Camp Pendleton in San Diego County.

“Too soon?” the Marine who posted the hateful photo asked, presumably with at least some self-awareness that it came mere days after Omar Mateen’s attack on Pulse nightclub in Orlando, which left 49 people dead.

The soldier in the picture, which has since been deleted, and the person who shared it on social media have both been identified, a Marine Expeditionary Force spokesman told the Marine Times.

The MEF promised to take appropriate action, and issued this statement.

“The Marine Corps does not tolerate discrimination based on sexual orientation, race, gender or religion. This type of behavior and mindset will not be allowed, and it is not consistent with the core values of honor, courage and commitment that are demonstrated by the vast majority of Marines on a daily basis.”

Good.
