WATCH The Moment A 5-Year-Old Finds Out He’s Getting A New Heart And Will Get To Go To A Red Sox Game

If you came here for the feels, you had better strap in because this video is going to hit you hard. Five-year-old Ari Schultz was diagnosed with critical aortic stenosis and evolving hypoplastic left heart syndrome when he was in the womb. So he has been waiting for a new heart his entire life. Last week, Ari got the news that he was getting a new heart and he had a rollercoaster of emotions.

Ari has been living at the Boston Children’s Hospital while he is waiting for a heart transplant. On March 3, after 211 days of waiting, doctors informed Ari’s parents that they had a heart just for Ari.

Last Monday, Ari’s parents Mike and Erica, told their adorable son about the exciting news as he was working on his swing at the hospital.

“So I can go home tomorrow?” brave little Ari asks as he fights back tears. “Not tomorrow, but soon after,” his dad says.

Ari loves baseball and his favorite team is the Boston Red Sox. Mike tells Ari that they might be able to go to a Red Sox game this season.

On Wednesday, Ari’s parents revealed that the heart transplant was a success.

“Ari’s new heart began beating in his chest spontaneously at 11:32 p.m. on Friday, March 3,” Mike posted.

“As of now, he’s stable in the cardiac intensive care unit,” his parents wrote. “He is deeply sedated and has a breathing tube in. He looks like he’s resting comfortably.”

“We are forever thankful for the donor and donor families sacrifice, and will think about them every day for the rest of our lives,” they wrote. “Please, #DonateLife.”

Ari will face a lifetime of medication to guard against rejection or infection of his heart. He will also have a strict diet and will have to deal with a compromised immune system.

The Schultz family is hopeful the boy will be able to go home in one to three months and that he can attend school in September. Let’s hope that Ari also gets to go to a Red Sox game this season.

Ari requested a song before his surgery: the live cut of The Grateful Dead’s “Scarlet Begonias” and “Fire on the Mountain.”

This goes out to Ari.
