My Netflix account is fucked up. Every time I go to watch a movie or what-have-you, after about 30 minutes or so I end up watching at least six episodes of The Office. Don’t know what it is or if it’s my fault, but no matter what I decide to watch I can always count on the fact that I’ll inevitably see Steve Carell in a suit come waltzing across my screen within 40-45 minutes. It’s probably because I’ve already blown through all the “good” movies on Netflix – Snowpiercer, Rambo, Kung Fu Hustle – all watched, all repeats, all movies I’ve seen multiple times before succumbing to The Office, and it doesn’t help that my available movie genres to choose from are shit like “Drama,” “Action-Adventure” and “Romance.” Bitch where are my horror movies? How do I get the genres I want and not the shittastic suggestions they throw at me after my little cousin logs into my account and watches Pocahontas six times??

Well fear not, for Gizmodo has a trick that’s apparently been around for a while but is still relatively unknown by most people:

Whenever you dive into a genre on the Netflix website you get a URL that looks something like www.netflix.com/browse/genre/6839—and if you play around with that end number you can discover some hidden gems. How about visually striking films for ages 5-7? Or period pieces?

… Not all of these codes work, which isn’t surprising given the hidden nature of the feature, the constantly shifting Netflix catalog, and the variations between countries, but a lot of them do. It’s fun turning up a few obscure films that you might not otherwise have discovered.

There’s two unofficial lists located HERE and HERE, however just to give you a taste of what’s actually available to you genre-wise we’ve included a portion of list #1 below:
