Screw Plasma: The New ‘Wallpaper TV’ Is So Thin You Can Roll It Up And Carry It Around With You

Everyone has that one friend who always invites you over for movie nights; the only problem is that they’re still using a tube television from the 90’s and it’s only about 20 inches wide. Retro stuff is cool and all…but not when it sucks. Luckily, LG’s just unveiled their new “wallpaper TV” that weighs just 4 pounds and rolls out to be a 55 inch screen. According to Metro,

LG’s new ‘wallpaper TV’ weighs just 1.9kg and is just 1mm thick, which means it can be hung on the wall using only magnets…

While the 55 inch screen, a type of OLED (organic light-emitting diode) TV, is currently in ‘concept’ phase, LG showed off a prototype at a press event in Korea this week.

The TV is attached to the wall using a magnetic pad – when you want to take it down, you simply peel it off the magnetic backing.

OLED TVs are much slimmer than screens of the past because they’re able to emit light by themselves, rather than via a backlight unit, as seen in liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs.

While it future sounds badass and all, the price tag isn’t so hot — $9,000. By the time you’ve saved up even half of the dough to snag yourself one of these televisions 10 years will have passed and they’ll have come up with something else more expensive and fancier to buy. Stupid technology.
