U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is ending his six-day, three-nation Asian tour, but North Korea couldn’t help but make their own headlines. While Tillerson was having a constructive and optimistic meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Pyongyang announced that North Korea tested a “new type” of “high-thrust” rocket engine.

On Saturday, Kim Jong Un attended the ground test at the Sohae launch site. The North Korean dictator called the rocket a “revolutionary breakthrough” for the country’s space program and “a great event of historic significance” for the country’s indigenous rocket industry.

Kim also said the “whole world will soon witness what eventful significance the great victory won today carries” and claimed the test marks what will be known as the “March 18 revolution” in the development of the country’s rocket industry.

North Korea is banned by the United Nations from conducting long-range missile tests, but Pyongyang claims the new rocket is for the peaceful mission of launching satellites. Many doubt North Korea’s motives since the isolated regime has been eagerly marching towards having the ability to launch intercontinental ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads.

This disturbing news comes after North Korea threatened nuclear war with the United States and South Korea if they were to fire a “single bullet.”

On Friday, Yahoo News UK reported that DPRK’s Foreign Ministry made a menacing statement on March 8.

“The Korean People’s Army will reduce the bases of aggression and provocation to ashes with its invincible Hwasong rockets tipped with nuclear warheads and reliably defend the security of the country and its people’s happiness in case the U.S. and the south Korean puppet forces fire even a single bullet at the territory of the DPRK.”

On Friday, Secretary Of State Tillerson said diplomacy has “failed” and a preemptive attack on North Korea is an option that is “on the table.”
