Uber is an odd social encounter. An absolute stranger is picking up a person and giving them a ride to a destination. There’s forced small talk, closed quarters and an overall feeling of “we should be friends for the next few minutes.” There doesn’t have to be, of course, you could just be a dick and go mute for the entire ride BUT if you’re a human being, you feel the need to make a connection.
This leads to people saying some dumb shit to Uber drivers. They also say dumb stuff in the company of an Uber drive, because after all, you’re buddies now!
