R. Kelly made a late bid for the most awkward interview of 2015 by appearing on the set of HuffPostLive today with the intention of promoting his new album Buffet. With what started out to be a cordial interview moderated by HuffPost’s host Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani, things started getting dicey when Caroline pulled up a couple fan tweets centering around R. Kelly’s checkered past with sexual assault. Namely this one:

R. Kelly clammed up immediately, talking over Modarressy-Tehrani for what seemed like minutes on end as a defense mechanism to stop the bleeding.

He then began to call the interview an “interrogation” and a “deposition,” before reaching for his microphone, standing up, and walking away from questions he should be nuanced in answering by now.

The anti-drug people gave him a $50 savings bond for his brave contribution to crime-fighting, and upon the bond’s maturity 10 years later, he used it to buy his very first bag of marijuana.
