NBC5’s Jeff Smith knew just the blocking that would turn his otherwise mundane report on low lake levels into a Peabody-winning masterpiece. He’d deliver the news while actually stuck in mud. That would do the trick.
It’s not that the Dallas reporter’s plan was bad, it’s just that he forgot to take the cementing properties of mud seriously.
His photographer finally came to the rescue after much cackling.
The station turned the incident into even more content, so, in the end, expect a big raise to be approved for this guy by week’s end.
