WEAK – This Engineer Claims Robots Are Gonna Kill Us All Out Of Kindness

Nell Watson, an Amsterdam-based engineer, spoke at a robot death robotics conference in Sweden, and asserted that unless machines are taught the value of human life, they could see it as compassionate to kill us all. I really don’t have time to deal with this shit right now.

Nell explains via the Daily Mail

Teaching machines to be kind is not enough, she says, as robots could decide that the greatest compassion to humans as a race is to get rid of everyone to end suffering.

‘The most important work of our lifetime is to ensure that machines are capable of understanding human value,’ she said at the recent ‘Conference by Media Evolution’ in Sweden.

‘It is those values that will ensure machines don’t end up killing us out of kindness.’

While Ms. Watson’s warning seems grim, she believes a robot uprising isn’t necessarily a negative event. ‘Machines can help us understand ourselves and gather self-knowledge,’ she said.

Are you kidding me? A robot uprising isn’t negative? Are you out of your mind, lady? Have you not seen Terminator, or Terminator 2: Judgement Day, or Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines?!?! You can skip Terminator Salvation, although it’s production was worth it solely for Christian Bale’s on-set freakout.

How are we supposed to teach robots the value of human life when humans don’t even understand the value of human life?! I read the news (The Daily Show), I see what’s going on out there. If we’re the ones who are expected to instill a sense of compassion in these robotic killing machines then we are shit out of luck.

I’m seeing the writing on the wall and I don’t like where this is going. As a precaution, I think we should smash all of our iPhones and set fire to anything with a microchip in it. Who’s joining me in the resistance?
