Dude Absolutely Destroys The Rubik’s Cube World Record, Sets New One At Just 4.74 Seconds

Blink and you’ll miss it. Over the weekend a dude by the name of Mats Valk set an all new Rubik’s Cube world record, raising the bar of success to just 4.74 seconds. From what I’ve gathered this world record setting attempt took place at an organized Rubik’s Cube competition somewhere in Indonesia yesterday, at Jawa Timur Open.

In searching through all of the results of this year’s Jawa Timur Open I’ve come to the realization that I have abso-fucking-lutely no clue how the competitive world of Rubik’s Cube looks, and I had no idea that there was a World Cube Association until today. In addition to the Rubik’s Cube even there’s a TON of others I’ve never heard of until now: 4×4 cube, 5×5 cube, 2×2 cube, 3×3 blindfolded, 3×3 one-handed, 3×3 fewest moves, 3×3 with feet….Seriously, who in their right mind flew to Indonesia for this World Cube Association competition just to solve a fucking cube using their feet? I’m not sure if the feet-solving category makes the entire tournament more or less legit in my mind, and this is one I’ll have to sleep on.
