‘The Sandlot’ Star Michael Vitar AKA Benny ‘The Jet’ Rodriguez Was Just Arrested For Possibly The Worst Reason Ever

The Sandlot ranks right up there next to The Goonies in terms of beloved childhood films that both aren’t cartoons and won’t make your parents resent you for making them sit through 90 minutes of what’s usually cinematic crap (I made my mom see Pokemon: The Movie with me in theaters when I was 10 – I’m so, so sorry mom). Unfortunately for one Sandlot star, it looks like while the rest of the cast has either retired from acting or gone onto bigger and better things, Michael Vitar AKA Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez has moved onto felony assault.

Former child star Vitar, who is now employed as a Los Angeles firefighter, was charged with felony assault for beating up 22-year-old Samuel Chang on Halloween night with Eric Carpenter, 38, another off duty firefighter, and Thomas Molnar, 45. According to Daily Mail,

The District Attorney’s statement alleges that Carpenter was hosting a Halloween party when they spotted Chang…

The three then allegedly chased him down the street and jumped him, throwing him to the ground while Carpenter choked him, LA Weekly reported.

Vitar and Molnar were charged with one count each of ‘assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury’; while Carpenter has also been charged with ‘personally inflicting great bodily injury on the victim’.

What was Chang doing to deserve such a beating, you ask? Why he was handing out candy to passing children don’tcha know! On Halloween of all days! The CALAMITY, dear god SAVE US from the guy handing out candy to kids on Halloween.

Vitar is currently on administrative leave while the case is being investigated and was released on $30,000 bail last week.
