These 24 Mouth-Watering Photos Of Oysters Are A Reminder That Fall Is The Best Time Of The Year To Eat ‘Em

We’re knee-deep into Fall now and that means you need to start filling your mouth with as many deliciously shucked oysters as possible. It’s easy to forget that oysters are a cold-water mollusk that are best eaten at the times of year when the waters are chilliest. I repeat: if you want good oysters NOW is the time of year to eat them.

A few days ago I was lucky enough to be invited to Thrillist‘s ‘Empire Oyster’, an oyster event here in the city put on by Thrillist and sponsored by Modelo Especial. For an oyster lover like myself if was pure heaven: three full hours of unlimited oysters and beer. The city’s finest seafood restaurants turned up for the event, and I think I ended up putting down close to four dozen raw oysters (in addition to several fried oysters, a few chowders and bisques). For more photos from the event make sure to follow Thrillist on Instagram and Modelo Especial on Facebook and Insta.

The raw oysters at Thrillst’s Empire Oyster sponsored by Modelo Especial included the following:

(1) Harvest Moon from Matituck, LI, (2) Maris Stella from Great South Bay, LI, (3) Pineapple Express from Hood Canal, WA, (4) Peconic Gold from Peconic Bay, LI, (5) Shinnecock Nation from Shinnecock Bay, LI, (6) Montauk Pearls from Montauk, LI, (7) Lucky 13 from Great South Bay, LI, (8) Fishers Island from Fishers Island, NY, (9) Oyster Ponds from Oysterponds, LI, Pine Island from Oyster Bay, LI.

I just want to send out a huge thanks to Thrillist and Modelo Especial for having us out to the event! There’s truly no better day than a day full of unlimited oysters and beer!
