Winner Of Mr. Universe Says He Eats ZERO Meat And Gets All His Gains From Somewhere Else Entirely

41-year-old Barnabus du Plessis won the Mr. Universe bodybuilding contest in 2014, and while most would assume that du Plessis eats copious amounts of meat in order to attain his chiseled physique, according to the man himself that couldn’t be further from the truth. In a new ad campaign for PETA, du Plessis says that “the world’s strongest animals are plant-eaters: gorillas, buffaloes, elephants and me.”

Uh…ok. Those animals have completely different genetic make-ups from humans and process plant matter differently from the way we do. Comparing humans’ ability to process plants to the way elephants process plants is like saying because I drink water, I can swim just as fast as a dolphin..

Regardless, it wasn’t until du Plessis’ health began to decline that he decided it was time to change up his diet and switch protein for vegetables, vegetables and…well, more vegetables:

In an exclusive PETA interview, he said: “Since becoming a vegan my training has been amazing. I wake up feeling good, I’ve got more energy, my recovery’s really good and I’ve got no aches and pains. Best of all, I’m not contributing to the suffering of animals.”(via)

As for what du Plessis used to eat versus the vegan diet he has now, well, both sound like they suck balls so I really shouldn’t be slamming veganism. Who wants to eat 10 egg whites first thing in the morning, followed by another 10 egg whites at dinner? Apparently the same guy who has beetroot shots as pre-workout and a raw date bar after training:

What Barny used to eat:
Breakfast: 10 egg whites, nuts and corn flakes
Mid-morning: Whey protein, cereals and a banana
Lunch: Chicken, rice, veg and seeds
Mid-afternoon: Chicken, rice and veg
Post-workout: Whey protein
Dinner: Oven chips and a 10 egg white omelette
Pudding: Quark with whey and Rice Crispies

What Barny eats now:
Pre workout: Coffee with coconut oil and beetroot shot
After Training: Vegan protein with super greens and raw date bar
Breakfast: Vegan protein with tapioca/ rice flakes/ quinoa and mixed seeds, cacao and stevia
Lunch: Brown basmati rice, mixed lentils and salad with nutritional yeast
Mid-afternoon: Brown basmati rice, mixed lentils and veggies with nutritional yeast
Dinner: Oats, vegan protein and Mixed seeds, cacaco and stevia

Blegh. You can’t deny though, the guy’s got muscle:
