Married Woman Has 3-Day Affair At Hotel, Gets Pregnant, Is Now Suing The Hotel

Having an affair sounds insanely complicated. There are so many things that can go wrong. You can catch an STD. Your credit card can show unexplained hotel charges. Clothes can pick up the scent of the other woman. Your partner can even activate the GPS feature on your phone if you’ve enabled sharing.

These are just a few examples, and for the most part, they’re all things that can also be explained away if you are quick on your toes. One thing that cannot be explained? A married woman coming home from a 3-day affair to later found out she’s pregnant. You can’t explain away a baby.

This married woman in Germany spent three nights at a hotel sleeping with a man named Michael. 9 months later she gave birth to a child. She’s now suing the hotel for information on the father so that she can file for child support. She never got the man’s last name, and unfortunately for her, there were FOUR guests named Michael who were staying at the hotel during the time that she was there. This has now become a matter of privacy according to Germany’s The Local:

Therefore the woman filed a case against the Munich-based hotel chain to retrieve the information she wanted, according to the Abendzeitung.
But the court rejected the woman’s claim, saying that she was not entitled to demand the data from the hotel.
According to the court, the potential father’s right to self-determination of his own information – as well as his right to protect his family or marriage – took precedence over the woman’s right to child support and protecting her family.
The court further argued that the four possible Michaels had a right to privacy, which protects them from having to reveal sexual relations. They should, therefore, be able to determine for themselves how and to whom this information is divulged.
“This right is affected by the exposure of the data because as a result, the possibility of [the man having] a sexual relationship with the complainant, as the mother of the child, would be irrefutably placed in the room,” the court wrote in its decision. (Via)

It makes sense. Those 4 men named Michael staying at the hotel were entitled to privacy. At the same time, we have no idea if the man she had an affair with might actually want to be a part of the child’s life.

This all happened in the Summer of 2010. Imagine finding out today that you had a 5-year-old baby, would you want to know what your baby was like, and would you want to be a part of that child’s life? I’m guessing that most stand-up bros would say ‘yes’. The three Michael’s who stayed at the hotel and didn’t go to Pound Town obviously have no obligation to get tied up in this, and legally so does the 4th. I just feel like there’s a chance that the father might actually want to know the kid. Well, depending on how much child support might cost in Germany I suppose there’s also a STRONG CHANCE that Michael doesn’t want anything to do with this situation. Thoughts?
