This Captain’s Obsession Will Get You Hyped AF For Tarpon Fishing Season In Florida

The Silver King is arguably the most coveted game fish in the state of Florida. Unlike snook, redfish, and trout which can generally be caught year-round in Florida, there’s a limited window in which fishermen can stalk tarpon effectively.

Some fishermen spend their entire lives pursuing tarpon, with all other species caught playing second fiddle to the silver behemoths once caught by Ernest Hemingway. The guide featured above in ‘120 Days’ by Yeti Presents is David Mangum. And if you’re interested in booking a tarpon fishing charter (or another inshore fishing trip) with him or another fishing guide from his outfit you can do that and go fishing with this man by clicking here to check out all of the charter options.

As a born and raised Floridian, I’m pretty ashamed to admit this, but I’ve never actually caught a tarpon. I’ve hooked/jumped several of them but the elusive Silver King has always evaded me. I’ve fished for them all throughout Florida, as well as in Mexico and Puerto Rico, and it’s the fish that always seems to be just outside of my grasp. I’m hoping my luck turns around this tarpon season here in my part of Southwest Florida, though I’ve yet to book a tarpon charter yet so chances are every caption from Anna Maria to Boca Grande is already booked up….Pray for me, this could be my year.
