30-Year-Old Ex-NFL Linebacker Reveals He Has ALS While Doing the Ice Bucket Challenge

It’s easy to get carried away with the social media narcissism associated with the Ice Bucket Challenge and forget that it’s raised $22 Million in 22 days to fight ALS. As much as you might hate watching people dump ice water over their heads, it is for a fantastic cause. One year ago, Tim Shaw was a linebacker for the Tennessee Titans. In his Ice Bucket challenge video shaw revealed that he’s actually battling ALS, which is presumably why he’s no longer in the league.

Sadly, there’s some speculation that football might be the cause of ALS: According to a study from the American Academy of Neurology, football players are four times more likely to die from Alzheimer’s disease and ALS.

I watched Shaw quite a bit during his college days at Penn State, so this is certainly one of the more meaningful Ice Bucket Challenge videos. Let’s not forget the incredible cause this is for: Kicking ALS’s ass, including some of the preventative measures that can be taken in dangerous sports like football to prevent it.
