Allen Iverson Is Officially Being Inducted Into the NBA Hall Of Fame

There was nothing more explosive than watching Allen Iverson play in a ’76ers uniform. I grew up a stereotypical Bulls fan bowing to the shrine of Michael Jordan, but that all changed at the age of 10 when Philadelphia brought Allen Iverson to town. I was too young to appreciate the Moses Malone, Dr. J, and even Charles Barkley years, but can’t forget the immediate breath of life A.I. brought to town. Watching that filthy crossover was like getting zapped by a defibrillator.

In my eyes, Allen Iverson will always be the greatest NBA player to never win a championship. You have no idea how heartbreaking it was to watch the ’76ers piss it all away to Kobe after A.I. went up 48 points in the first game. If 76ers miraculously make it to another Finals in the next 20 years, I Sam Hinkie puts A.I. in a suit and make up some bullshit coaching title just so he can sit on the bench. That’s how much I loved Allen Iverson.

Today all is right in the world. Iverson will be immortalized in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame along with other hoops legends: Shaquille O’Neal, Zelmo Beaty, Yao Ming, Sheryl Swoopes, Jerry Reinsdorf, and Tom Izzo.

It’s 2016 and we’re still talking about practice. #3 all day, forever and ever.

Deadspin posted an old YouTube supercut of Allen Iverson breaking ankles with his signature crossover.
