Bo Ryan has a tradition where he makes his Wisconsin freshmen dive off the elevated floor at Minnesota’s Williams Arena. It’s an annual rite of passage that serves multiple purposes.
First, it brings a sense of solidarity among Badgers players.
More importantly, though, it provides great slapstick comedy footage for blogs.
Ryan broke out the drill in preparation for last night’s game against the Gophers and it was as good as ever.
Fun fact: I had a eighth-grade basketball coach make us do diving suicides once. Guy really wanted a gritty squad to put on his coaching record. Think we went 4-14 on the year — but definitely led the county in floor burns.
