Relief pitcher Carter Capps was recently up for a cup of coffee with the Miami Marlins and used his time to win America over with his ridiculous hopping delivery.
The unorthodox motion attracted lots of attention and made many wonder how something like this is legal.
It turns out, it’s not so legal.

Peter Gammons reported this morning that Major League teams have been informed this hop step is no bueno. Along the way he called Carter Capps “Matt Capps” but, hey, the facts remain the same.

To be honest, I’m a little disappointed. If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying. Capps is just a guy trying to earn a big league paycheck. And, hell, if he has to run halfway to the plate before releasing pitches to make it happen, those are the breaks.
