CM Punk’s First UFC Opponent Has Been Revealed (Maybe) And Punk Might Be In Big Trouble

When CM Punk announced that he was going to be fighting in the UFC it was widely assumed that his first fight would be against another fighter relatively new to the MMA world. In fact, UFC President Dana White himself actually said that Punk would not be taking on a veteran fighter.

“He wanted to fight here,” White told ESPN.com. “He wanted to give it a shot, so we gave him an opportunity. It’s not like Brock Lesnar. We’re not going to throw the kitchen sink at him. Lesnar had a wrestling background. [CM Punk] is going to fight a guy who is 1-0, 1-1, 2-1 — something like that.”

So why did Cathal “The Punisher” Pendred just tweet a little while ago that he is going to be the one to face off against Punk in his first MMA bout?

It’s clobberin’ time?

For those unfamiliar with Cathal Pendred here’s a little background. He was on season 19 of The Ultimate Fighter. He is 15-2-1 in MMA. And he’s 9-0-1 in his last 10 fights.

If Pendred is telling the truth in his tweet then CM Punk could be in for a very long night. Or rather a very short one, as this might turn out to be the real-life version of Hell in a Cell. Stay tuned.
