The Stanley Cup Final has been a cavalcade of pain and heartache for the New York Rangers. After losing the first two games in overtime, they returned home last night with hopes of tightening up the series.
They didn’t.
The Los Angeles Kings turned Madison Square Garden into a house of horrors with a commanding 3-0 win. And it could have been much, much worse. Here’s Dan Girardi sacrificing all of the skin on his face to thwart a fourth goal. It was a great effort, but a little Sisyphian in retrospect.
On the bright side, it provides the perfect microcosm of the series so far. That won’t cool the burn on Girardi’s face, of course, but all true artists suffer for their work.
