UFC President Dana White appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night to talk about the upcoming fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. Dana White kicked off off the interview by describing the match as ‘the biggest fight in combat sports history, literally, the biggest fight ever done’.

I’m pretty sure that is a patently false statement by Dana White, one that fans of Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson will take exception with. Furthermore, I’m not even sure this is the biggest for Floyd Mayweather in the past 10 years. He’ll make more in this fight than any other in his career, but I’m still somewhat convinced that when it comes time for Fight Night a shit ton of people won’t end up tuning in because Conor McGregor is a mediocre boxer and the entire thing is a charade.

Dana White, however, is convinced that Conor McGregor has a fighting chance in this bout. Dana’s explanation of why Conor has a chance seems plausible when you hear him lay out his case until you remember that Floyd Mayweather isn’t going to get hit even once. Jimmy Kimmel asked Dana White about the comparison of Floyd winning is like a Cricket team winning the MLB World Series. Dana argues that all Conor has to do is land punches and he’ll knock out Floyd Mayweather. Beyond that, argues that Conor McGregor will be fighting outside of the system that boxers are accustomed to. He says that Conor will be fighting a completely unorthodox style and that’s going to be the x-factor in this match.

Dana White is selling this narrative pretty fucking hard. So hard, in fact, you’d think that he was a traveling salesman peddling snake oil. Chances that Conor McGregor wins this fight? 5%.
