Ernie Els Got Overly Candid When Talking About His Very Public Putting Meltdown

Ernie Els had a tough first round at the 2016 Masters. Actually, his round wasn’t completely terrible, but what transpired on the green at the first hole was. If you recall (and, really, how can’t you?) Els seven-putted and carded a TEN on the hole. I don’t care who you are, that is a round killer.

To his credit, Els played the rest of the round at two over par, but all anyone wanted to talk about was his disgusting, yip-induced meltdown on the first green.

When asked about the first hole, Els was honest. Maybe more honest than any other player would have been. He didn’t blame non-activated glutes or a change in his release pattern. In fact, he didn’t make any excuses at all. He opened up his soul and gave an honest answer.
