3 High Protein Taco Options That You Need To Make This Summer (Or Have Someone Make For You)

Waking up and looking shredded feels awesome.

The process to get shredded, though, sucks.

We love to notice the fat melt away around our abs, but what drives us all nuts is dieting.

There is one food that can end the suckery: tacos.

Tacos make everyone happy and I believe make the world a better place. But getting shredded usually means giving up your favorite restaurants and missing out on Taco Tuesday.

It doesn’t have to be that way.

At least three nights a week if not more you’ll find me munching on tacos. They’re easy to make for a busy coach and writer like myself. Plus there are a thousand different ways you can make them.

*All these recipes use corn tortillas as they are lower in calories per serving versus flour tortillas.*

Crunchy BBQ Chicken Tacos

Chicken breast is the superior meat when cutting. Over a 3 or 4 month cut, though, you’ll search for more ways to liven up meals with chicken.

With tons of flavor, this recipe, will make you forget you consumed your 456th piece of chicken in 3 months.

What you’ll need:

4 corn tortillas

8 ounces of chicken breast, cut into strips

¼-½ cup of BBQ sauce, low sugar

½ tomato

Red onion diced

Shallot diced

Cilantro diced

Lime Juice

2 ounces of BBQ Pork Rinds, smashed

Cut the chicken in strips, then coat with BBQ sauce, and place on plate to marinate for 10 minutes.

While the chicken soaks up the BBQ sauce, dice your tomato, cilantro, red onion, and shallot. Combine the tomato, shallot, cilantro, and red onion in a bowl. Add a ½ teaspoon of lime juice and stir.

Cook the chicken on the stove over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes per side.

While the chicken cooks, smash up the pork rinds into small bits and combine with the salsa. Stir the mixture one more time to mix the salsa and pork rinds.

Once the chicken is done, place your strips into the 4 corn tortillas and top with the pork rind salsa mixture and enjoy.

These tacos clock in around 10 grams of fat, 70 grams of carbs, and 54 grams of protein for a total of under 600 calories.

Spicy Chipotle Shrimp Tacos

Shrimp packs a massive uppercut of protein to your diet. Each serving gives you 18-20 grams of protein with only a single gram of fat.

What you’ll need for the chipotle seasoning:

2 teaspoons chili powder

1 teaspoon sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

1/4 teaspoon ground chipotle chile powder

Stir all the above ingredients together, then store in a container for later use. All you’ll need for this recipe is 2 teaspoons of your mixture.

Next you’ll need:

8-10 peeled and deveined large shrimp

1 teaspoon olive oil

2 corn tortillas

Place shrimp in a bowl and coat with the 2 teaspoons of chipotle mixture.

Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium heat and cook the shrimp for 90 seconds on each side.

Remove the shrimp from the heat and warm the tortillas in the oven at 300 degrees for 4 minutes or microwave per the packaging.

Place the shrimp in tacos and top with your favorite salsa.

These clock in at 5 grams of fat, 26 grams of carbs, and 32 grams of protein.

Have fat to spare? Add half an avocado to cool down the spicy chipotle flavor for an extra 11 grams of fat.

Fat Shredding Lean Beef Tacos

Ground beef tacos are my favorite. They’re the first tacos I remember ever having and they very little time to prepare.

For this recipe you’ll need:

4 corn tortillas

8 ounces of very lean (96/4) ground beef

Tomato

Onion

Cilantro

½ teaspoon of lime juice

Dice up the tomato, onion, and cilantro and combine it with the lime juice.

Spray your frying pan with non-stick cooking spray and heat the ground beef over medium heat until it browns. Add chili powder, garlic, or a pinch of salt and pepper if you have them while the meat cooks.

One the meat is browned, heat up the tortillas in the oven for 4 minutes at 300 degrees. Remove the tortillas, fill them evenly with the ground beef and top with the salsa you made first.

With only 12 grams of fat, 52 grams of carbs and 52 grams of protein these classic ground beef tacos will make getting shredded far more enjoyable.

Kick the old school bro diet of chicken, rice, and broccoli out the window while you get shredded for summer. Scarf down these high protein taco recipes.
