Iowa State Football Team Surprises Teammate After His Final Chemo Treatment

There is a tradition at Mary Greeley Medical Center that was started by a former patient where those who defeat cancer walk the hallways and ring a bell. This is not only to celebrate the individual who beat cancer, but to give hope to those who are still battling the deadly disease. On Friday, Iowa State football player Mitchell Meyers got to ring that beautiful bell.

Meyers walked down the hall, ringing the bell, and then was greeted with a surprise; his coaches and teammates were there cheering and serenading him with smiles. It was a real reason for celebration because Meyers had just completed his final chemotherapy treatment for his Hodgkin lymphoma.

Even with the debilitating disease and going through grueling rounds of chemotherapy, Meyers didn’t miss a summer workout with the team.

The Iowa State defensive lineman kicked cancer’s ass and now will undergo radiation in his hometown of Houston, then rejoin the Cyclones at some point in the fall.

That is dedication.
