J.R. Smith And His Wife Take To Twitter To Reveal Some Upsetting News About Their Newborn Daughter

J.R. Smith won’t be back playing basketball until the playoffs after being sidelined with a nagging thumb injury on December 21. The injury, which will sideline him for three months, is of little importance when you consider what the NBA Champion and his wife, Jewel Harris, are undergoing with the newest member of their family.

J.R. and Jewel, who married in August, announced on Saturday the birth of their daughter Dakota, who they took to Twitter to announce arrived five months early and weighs just one pound.

“We know we’re not the only family going through this, who has been through this and who will ever go through it, that’s why we decided to share what we’re going through with you guys,” Jewel said in the video. “Please keep us in your prayers, and we’ll do the same for everyone else.”

Celebrities and fans took to Twitter to encourage the Smith’s in a difficult time.

Matt’s love of writing was born during a sixth grade assembly when it was announced that his essay titled “Why Drugs Are Bad” had taken first prize in D.A.R.E.’s grade-wide contest. The anti-drug people gave him a $50 savings bond for his brave contribution to crime-fighting, and upon the bond’s maturity 10 years later, he used it to buy his very first bag of marijuana.
