Kevin Love Drops The Mic On Cavs Teammates Who Ripped Him For Being Chubby In High School

Looking at high school Kevin Love from 2007, it’s hard to believe he was the nation’s Gatorade Male Athlete of the Year, first-team Parade All-American, and the all-time leading scorer in Oregon boys’ basketball history with 2,628 points. Just one look at those inverted knees and it’s almost impossible to believe that Love averaged 34 points and 17 rebounds in his senior year, leading Oregon’s Lake Oswego High School to three state championship appearances (losing his senior year to Duke’s Kyle Singler). I’m not saying he doesn’t look like a basketball player, I’m just saying he looks like he ate a box of Gushers for breakfast.

Fast forward 10 years, and the 29-year-old is an NBA Champion and four-time NBA All-Star still defending his build from his high school days. Several Cavs players got together for the Wine and Gold United charity event, where Love’s teammates took playful jabs at him for his doughy figure in the photo above, saying that he looked “chubby.”

Love’s response is electric…

From once looking like he brushed his teeth with Mountain Dew to being on the cover of ESPN Body Issue. What a difference a decade makes. And bullying.

Matt’s love of writing was born during a sixth grade assembly when it was announced that his essay titled “Why Drugs Are Bad” had taken first prize in D.A.R.E.’s grade-wide contest. The anti-drug people gave him a $50 savings bond for his brave contribution to crime-fighting, and upon the bond’s maturity 10 years later, he used it to buy his very first bag of marijuana.
