Dead.

In just his second UFC fight after his loss to Tony Ferguson in July, “Groovy” Lando Vannata secured his first UFC win in style, KO-ing John Makdessi in a prelim bout at UFC 206 in Toronto yesterday with a beautiful spinning wheel kick. The 24-year-old college dropout sent Makdessi to the mat in just a minute and a half into Round 1.

After the match Vannata told reporters he’d been waiting for the right time to execute the kick.

“I practiced that kick about 2,000 times in camp and I knew it was going to work,” Vannata said. “I was planning on using it and I knew he couldn’t stop it. I expected it to be successful. I’m ready for whoever they want to give me next.”

Promising future for the kid. But this begs the question, which kick was prettier: Lando’s or Donald “Cowboy” Corrine’s on Matt Brown at UFC 206? They’re both pretty gnarly.

Matt’s love of writing was born during a sixth grade assembly when it was announced that his essay titled “Why Drugs Are Bad” had taken first prize in D.A.R.E.’s grade-wide contest. The anti-drug people gave him a $50 savings bond for his brave contribution to crime-fighting, and upon the bond’s maturity 10 years later, he used it to buy his very first bag of marijuana.
