This Malaysian Diver Who Did A Belly Flop During The Diving Competition Is My New Olympic Hero

You can have your Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky, I’ll take Malaysian diver Ahmad Amsyar Azman as my Olympic role model in 2016. (That’s him above at a test event for Rio back in February.)

Azman was in 12th place after five rounds of the 3m springboard preliminaries with 18 divers moving on to the next round. All he had to do was basically not royally screw up.

Unfortunately during his jump he was sent way off to the side resulting in the greatest belly flop in Olympic history.

“I knew then that it was over as there was no way for me to make the semi-final,” said Azman afterwards, according to the New Straits Times.

Bro, you were in 12th in an event that most people aren’t watching. Now you’re known as the belly flop guy. In my book, that’s a tremendously successful Olympics and one that you will never forget.

(Same goes for you, Nadezhda Bazhina. Love ya.)
