Maryland Star Melo Trimble Knocked Out Of Loss To West Virginia By Two Brutal Blows To The Head

Maryland enjoyed a successful first season as a member of the Big Ten but may have suffered the most painful Round of 32 loss on the board.

Facing a pressing West Virginia team, the Terrapins were relying heavily on star freshman point guard Melo Trimble. Things were snug midway through the second half when Trimble was devastated by a moving screen.

His head flung back and he crumpled to the ground. Shockingly, no foul was called.

He returned a few minutes later, only to sustain an accidental kick to the back of his head from a teammate.

This blow sent him to the bench for good. He wasn’t allowed back in the game due to a head injury and watched the rest of the proceedings from the bench with tears in his eyes.

Without Trimble, Maryland was left with no ballhandlers and eventually eaten up by the Mountaineers.
