Cardinals’ Matt Holliday Nearly Killed An Umpire With A Bat Flip Gone Terribly Awry

A bit too much pine tar on that stick, Matt Holliday?

During Sunday afternoon’s game versus that San Diego Padres, the Cardinals outfielder was issued a walk after working the count full against Jason Vargas. Eager to get down the first baseline, Holliday turned and tried to flip his bat to the bat boy in waiting, only to have it careen over his shoulder and nearly catch the home plate umpire Tim Timmons square in the dome.

Holliday went 0-for-2 with two walks in the Cardinals’ 11-2 victory, and it’s safe to sy he’ll be a bit more careful casting his bat aside in games to come.
