Last night’s Gold Cup quarterfinal match between Mexico and Costa Rica was wildly entertaining. Both teams squandered golden chances to score and remained deadlocked at 0-0 well into extra time. After two full hours of play, however, the assistant referee chose to decide the game with a historically bad penalty call against the Costa Ricans.
Take a look for yourself.
Andres Guardado converted the penalty kick and moments later, the game ended.
Brutal, brutal way to have your tournament run end.
