Miami Marlins Pitcher Dan Jennings Took a Wicked Line Drive to the Head

Pitchers are in a dangerous position when hitters send vicious line drives back through the box. It’s difficult to completely follow through and be ready to defend themselves.

That’s why, sadly, incidents like this one last night with Dan Jennings aren’t entirely uncommon.

The Miami Marlins reliever was struck in the head by a line drive off the bat of Pittsburgh’s Jordy Mercer.

Early reports are that the lefty suffered a concussion, but no other injuries. Considering the force of the impact, that’s some good news.

If this isn’t compelling evidence for the protective cap lobby, I don’t know what would be.
