Michael Phelps’ Reaction When Jimmy Fallon Broke Out A Life-Size Cutout Of His ‘Death Stare’ Was Gold

Michael Phelps seemed to really enjoy it when Jimmy Fallon impersonated Ryan Lochte at the MTV VMAs, but he also got quite a kick out of Fallon having some fun with himself as well.

On Thursday night, as Phelps appeared on The Tonight Show, Fallon surprised the swimmer when he revealed a life-size cardboard cutout of Phelps’ famous “death stare” from the Rio Olympics.

Phelps reacted with a boisterous laugh and then did a quick imitation of “The Face” followed by, of course, one by Fallon.

He also explained that he knew his “Death Stare” had real potential go viral as he was making it.

“The worst is, I was sitting in the ready room and I remember, like I always know there’s always two cameras in the upper right hand corner,” Phelps told Fallon. “As I’m making a face, I’m like, ‘Yup that’s on camera, someone will pick that up tomorrow.'”

Phelps also talked about his baby son Boomer and how he’s been killing it on Instagram, “He’s definitely going to be the cool kid. He’s got to be the most followed baby in the world!”

As for Ryan Lochte and his other swimming buddies running into trouble in Rio all Phelps really had to say about that was that he “didn’t get the memo” to go out with them that night.

Great interview.

Later Phelps and Fallon played a game of Egg Russian Roulette, which Phelps actually said he was “nervous” about doing. Riiight.
