The Houston Rockets’ Chinese Lunar New Year Uniforms Look Like Cheap Youth T-Shirt Jerseys

The Chinese New Year is almost upon us, and the NBA is doing everything it can to remind fans of that fact. Earlier today, the Golden State Warriors unveiled special uniforms for the occasion, and now the Houston Rockets are following suit:

Sure, the jerseys look like cheap youth basketball uniforms, but that’s not even the worst best part about this. No, that honor goes to the fact that the Rockets are using Yao Ming in their unveiling ads, despite the fact that he’s been out of the NBA for four years. As if he’s about to suit up in this ridiculous sleeved jersey and put up a hefty double-double or something. Yeah, okay. Unless Yao has a crazy Chinese New Year’s Resolution I’m unaware of, that’s just not happening.

Per Yao:

“It brings great joy to me to see the Houston Rockets honor one of my country’s most important traditions. [Rocket’s owner] Mr. Alexander and the Rockets have long embraced our culture and customs and made basketball fans in China a part of the Rockets community.  I’m excited to ring in the Year of the Goat watching the Rockets wear the Lunar New Year uniforms.”
