Unfortunately, racism in sports is still happening all over the world, but Milwaukee Bucks big man John Henson became racially victimized by a jewelry store in White Fish Bay, Wisconsin after they refused service to him as he tried to purchase a watch.
According to Henson’s Instagram account—from the photo above—the 6-11 power forward detailed the “most degrading and racially prejudice” incident he has been a part of, adding that employees told him to go away before they slammed the door and locked it in his face. Employees then, allegedly, took cover and called the police.
It gets even worse, with cops asking Henson about the car he was driving—a Chevrolet that he described as being part of an endorsement deal with a local dealership—which finally led employees inside of the jewelry store to return from “the back and proceeded to conduct business like they previously were” when the player first walked up.
Henson, a fourth-year player who was drafted 14th overall out of North Carolina, recently inked an extension with the Bucks for four years and $45 million.
His experience comes as a sad reminder that racism is still an all too common scene—even for famous athletes—and is something no one should have to deal with after reading his description of the fiasco.
