Oakland A’s Ballboy Beefs A Diving Catch And Allows The Ball To Rebound Into Chris Smith’s Head

I feel as if being an MLB ballboy would be my nightmare. This may be because I never progressed beyond the pitching machine in my baseball career and I would be trying to look like I knew what I was doing in front of tens of thousands of people. Which I can only assume is what this ballboy for the Oakland A’s was doing when he completely missed a foul ball that was making a beeline for the A’s dugout.

Zero percent chance that kid’s ever even tried on a baseball glove before. While everyone is saying that pitcher Chris Smith, who got hit in the side of the head by the rogue baseball in question, was pretending to be mad, he looked pretty convincingly so to my untrained eyes. The ballboy, whose name is Scott Masler, tried to offer up a reason why he missed the catch besides the fact that he sucks at baseball.

Via Cut4:

“The sun is really bright at the Coliseum during that time of day, so the ball kind of blends in a little bit. It also took a bad hop. Nine times out of 10, I make that play. I’m still pretty upset I didn’t make the play.”

Sure pal. We’re all so much better at the one thing the whole world saw us fuck up when we do it behind closed doors and all the other times before the one ill-fated attempt.
