Ohio State’s Basketball Coach Thad Matta Quoted The Grateful Dead Right After Getting Fired

By 06.06.17

On Monday, Ohio State announced that Thad Matta would be stepping down from his long-time gig as the school’s men’s hoops coach. Despite being fired, his 13-year resume in Columbus is nothing short of impressive: 337-123 and two trips to the Final Four, in 2007 and 2012 respectively.

He went out in full ’70s Show fashion, quoting The Grateful Dead’s “Truckin'” like a heady high school senior yearbook quote. Just proof that a head’s a head, no matter what crossroads they happen to be at in life:

“This has probably been the greatest 13 years of my life… If you wanted an exact thought of where my emotions are, there’s a great song that says, ‘Sometimes the light shines brightly on me, other times I can barely see. Lately it’s occurred to me what a long, strange trip it’s been.”

It’s not goodbye, Thad. It’s see you later.
