Thunder Fan Petitions To Change Oklahoma Town Name From Durant To Westbrook And The Supporters Are Crushing KD

Oklahoma Thunder fans are still butt-hurt about Kevin Durant’s departure to the Golden State Warriors and now one fan, Ryan Nazari, has started a petition to change the name of Durant, Oklahoma to Westbrook.

Here’s Nazari’s plea:

“Ladies and gentlemen, the great state of Oklahoma has been betrayed. As many of you know, Kevin Durant has left our state, torn out our hearts, and left our beloved Oklahoma City Thunder in depleted shape. All of this after even being offered a cabinet position for the State of Oklahoma. It is because of this heinous action that I believe the State of Oklahoma has a responsibility to change the name of the City of Durant to Westbrook, the man who is loyal, whom we believe in, and who will lead our team to glory. Yes, it is understood that the city Durant was not named after the evil Kevin Durant, but it is just another hideous reminder of what happened to our community. Support the Cause. #WestbrookOK”

So far, the petition has more than 2,100 supporters and a ton of supportive comments. Other than the top-rated comment, which states how ridiculous this change is, it appears most Durant residents are for the name change.

“I believe in honoring great people who embody the spirit of Oklahoma. Facing adversity, never quitting, and always staying true to yourself. I believe russell westbrook embodies this and should be honored.” – cody turner, Tulsa, OK

Sounds like the first order of business after changing the town name is to build a bronze statue of Westbrook standing on top of Durant.

“Westbrook had a great ring to it, where as Durant sounds similar to Benedict Arnold.” – Chris Aldridge, Victoria, Canada

Oooooooeeeee, I thought Canadians were supposed to be super nice. Comparing Kevin Durant to a Revolutionary Era traitor and turncoat? Could be the sickest burn. Kevin Durant is not a patriot, nor is he an American anymore.

“As a Clevelander, I get it.” – Jeffrey Kelly, Falls Church, VA

Is that why he’s in Virginia?

“Westbrook sounds like a city that is clean, full of hard working, loyal, and talented individuals. Durant sounds like a city of backstabbers and cop out losers. That ain’t Oklahoma!!” – Angela Wolf, Broken Arrow, OK

Damn, Angela. You earned your Wolf surname. Savage AF.

“Kevin Durant has done to the state of Oklahoma what the Cincinatti Zoo did to my man Harambe. I say no more mistreatment, disloyalty, or betrayal.” – Tyler Baker, Grain Valley, MO

HARAMBE! This is probably as good a time as ever to plug our Hillary Did Harambe t-shirt.

“Durant has betrayed us. I can’t even look at our beautiful state map without being reminded of what he did to us. You must make this right. I Ask not that you do this with my voice alone in your mind, the voice of sports fans state wide, or the wind of destiny set into place the very day the town was named, but to do this with the poor people of that town, who are being labeled as traitors and betrayers just for the simple fact that there town bears the name of one, at the center of this discussion. They don’t deserve to be discriminated against, I ask again, Mary make this right!” – Zachary Elston, Oklahoma City, OK

“Wind of destiny”. My God, how do you NOT root for the Thunder this season?
