Carmelo Anthony Fires Back At Phil Jackson For Saying He’s ‘Better Off Somewhere Else’

It looks like the Carmelo Anthony era in New York is coming to an end.

Today, Knicks President Phil Jackson spoke to the media and fired some shots at the Knicks forward by saying that maybe Melo was “better off somewhere else” because the Knicks needed players who could “be active and play every single play, offensively and defensively”.

“We’ve not been able to win with (Anthony) on the court at this time,” Jackson said. “I think the direction with our team is that he’s a player that would be better off somewhere else and using his talent somewhere where he can win or chase that championship.”

Right now we need players who are really active can play every single play both offensively and defensively. We have some players right now who can do that and that’s the direction where we need to go.

Carmelo’s lack of focus on defense has been a consistent issue for the Knicks throughout the years and his complaints about the triangle offense may have been the final straw for Phil Jackson.

We’ll see if Melo will make life easy for Jackson and the Knicks by waving his no-trade clause this offseason.

Update: Carmelo Anthony took to Instagram to react to Phil Jackson’s comments
