Horseshoes And Hand Grenades: Phil Mickelson Was ONE Goddamn Inch From A Hole In One At The British Open

Phil Mickelson’s been absolutely lighting up the 2016 Open Championship (British Open) at Royal Troon in Scotland. Yesterday he was one lipped-out putt away from being the first bro to ever shoot a 62 at the Open Championship after his putt hit the edge of the cup and came to rest about 2 inches from the hole. Today Lefty has kept his foot on the gas pedal, and Phil Mickelson almost made history with a hole-in-one but was instead left with the shortest birdie-putt in history.

As of the time of publishing this blog post Phil’s sitting on a 1-stroke lead at Royal Troon, just -2 on the day versus yesterday’s blistering -8 performance. Henrik Stenson, Soren Kjeldsen, and Keegan Bradley are nipping closely at his heels, so he’s going to have to keep hunting flags like this if he wants to stay out in front of the field. From what I’ve heard today the weather at Royal Troon is supposed to shit the bed this weekend and turn into some sort of whirly monsoon, or at least that’s the picture the golf bloggers are painting on Twitter. So it’ll be interesting to see how Phil’s game holds up in the storms. Something of note is that he’s been wearing two gloves when the weather turns to shit, and it’s apparently working really well for him at Royal Troon.
