Tennis Player Disqualified For Hitting Umpire With Ball Out Of Anger, Gives Ref A Blackeye

This might be the strangest professional tennis clip I’ve ever seen. It took place during a Davis Cup match, and Canada’s Denis Shapovalov was disqualified for his actions.

Great Britain’s Kyle Edmund was winning the match from the start, and out of frustration during a tie-break, Canada’s Denis Shapovalov smacked a ball towards chair umpire Arnaud Gabas. This isn’t exactly a totally random shot. Professional tennis players have impeccable hand-eye coordination. But I think if Shapovalov tried to pull this shot off again he’d miss 9 out of 10 times.

Watch that shot in full-speed to see how devastating it was:

Regardless, the chair umpire got smacked in the eye with a tennis ball moving pretty damn fast. The Canadian player was immediately disqualified from the match for his actions. And chair umpire Arnaud Gabas was left with a black eye, according to reports.
