‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour’ Is Dead. Long Live ‘Rory McIlroy PGA Tour’

EA Sports hasn’t made a golf game since 2013, when the company ended its relationship with Tiger Woods.

But a new day has dawned. A new face will grace the cover. A face belonging to Rory McIlroy.

That’s right. Say hello to Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, expected to drop in early June.

“When you grow up playing golf you never really dream of being a character in a video game, let alone the guy on the box,” McIlroy told GolfDigest.com. “The technology powering the game is incredible. The courses are absolutely gorgeous, and looking at screenshots from the game you think someone just took a photo of the actual holes.”
Hey, if the guy whose name is on the game says it’s good, it must be.
Look, I don’t have any market research in hand, but it sure seems like an offseason mode would be a great feature here. Imagine piloting a virtual McIlroy through a tension-filled text message or nap. That’s where the real difficulty lays, not some 500-yard par-4.
