Cam Newton was last season’s NFL MVP after guiding his team to a 15-1 regular season record and a berth in the Super Bowl to represent the NFC. Still, some people found it laughable that “SuperCam” was listed in the No. 1 spot on the NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2016 list.
Here’s how some Twitterers reacted after the news:
They really ranked Cam Newton number 1 in nfl 😂

I lost all respect 4 Cam Newton when he wouldn't dive on a fumble WITH THE SUPER BOWL ON THE LINE, cause he was afraid of getting hurt #NFL

Now, as you’d expect, New England Patriots fans weren’t too happy to hear Newton beat out Golden Boy Tom Brady—who finished No. 2 in the rankings—collectively having a mini Twitter rant of their own.

Maybe all of this Cam Newton hate comes from a certain play in the Super Bowl everyone just happens to remember pretty vividly.
Yeah, that might just be it.
