UFC Fighters Fabricio Werdum And Colby Covington Have Public Blowup, Throw Slurs And A Boomerang

Videos have emerged of UFC fighters Fabricio Werdum and Colby Covington getting into a public blowup on Wednesday. The altercation including Covington spewing slurs against Werdum and he retaliated by throwing a boomerang at the fellow MMA fighter. This of course all happened in Australia because where else would someone get into a street fight and throw a boomerang at another person.

Covington and Werdum got into a confrontation that started as verbal and escalated into a physical clash outside of a hotel in Sydney. Both figters were down under for the UFC fight between Werdum and Marcin Tybura. Two videos of the incident were captured, one on Instagram Live taken by Covington and another by fellow UFC fighter Dan Hooker.

Covington, who is a welterweight fighter, verbally attacked Werdum and his home country of Brazil. “Fuck Brazil,” Covington said and called Werdum and Brazilians “filthy animals.” “Fuck Brazil! Fuck Fabricio Werdum, little bitch ass. Fuck Brazil. A bunch of filthy animals. And they wonder why they get talked to like that, because they’re a bunch of animals.” Covington also called Werdum an anti-gay slur.

Werdum, who is a heavyweight, was seen on video throwing a boomerang at Covington’s head. Covington alleges that Werdum punched him in the face. Werdum claims that he didn’t punch Covington in the face and if he did he would have put him in the hospital. Werdum gives his side of the story:

“This guy is really cocky,” Werdum said (translated by MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz). “I went down with my master (Rafael Cordeiro) to get a haircut and shave my beard. We were at the lobby, and I’ve never seen this guy before. When I walked past him, he looked at me and said ‘filthy Brazilians’. I looked at him and said ‘hey.’ I hit his phone and asked ‘what did you say?’ He kicked my leg, but I managed to defend it, so the guys got in the middle and nothing else happened. But he kicked me, he’s insolent. He could have hurt me.

If I really had (punched) him in the face he would be in the hospital. For sure. There was no punch. He’s delusional. I don’t know why he insists in talking about Brazilians. I don’t get it. He wants media, wants to copy Conor McGregor. He looks ridiculous the way he does it. I couldn’t believe when he said that. I hit his phone and he took a step back and kicked me. We started to argue and he continue to scream that Brazilians were animals.”

Meanwhile, Covington said he will be “pressing charges” against Werdum. “He fucked up,” Covington wrote in a statement. “There’s video and I speak the truth. He will be exposed soon, probably end up in Australia prison.”

The UFC also released a statement on the situation and promised that an investigation into the incident is coming. “UFC was made aware of the altercation between Fabricio Werdum and Colby Covington at the organization’s host hotel in Sydney, Australia,” the statement said. “The organization will conduct a full investigation to determine if the Athlete Conduct Policy was violated before taking any further action on this matter.”

For Covington, this isn’t the first time that he has expressed hatred for Brazilians. After beating Brazilian mixed martial artist Demian Maia in Sao Paolo last month, Covington called the Brazilian crowd “filthy animals” during the post-fight barage in Sao Paulo. He added that Brazil was a “dump.” We now need a Covington Vs. Werdum UFC fight ASAP.
