Verne Lundquist’s Final College Football Farewell After Army-Navy Was Just Perfect

For the first time since 2001, Army beat Navy and had the luxury of singing second on Saturday. Fittingly, the end of the historic drought also market the last college football game that play-by-play legend, 76-year-old Verne Lundquist will call ever call.

In closing his last NCAA football broadcast ever, Lundquist shared a touching and tearful farewell to all of his colleagues and friends, far and wide. Here it is in its entirety, and it’s well worth the watch:

From shunning off the heckling fans in the intro, to thanking his wife and getting a round of applause from the booth, it was just all around terrific to see Verne ride off into the sunset calling a game that won’t be forgotten any time soon.

Lucky for us, as Lundquist resonated in closing, at least we still have the pleasure of hearing him call the Masters and college hoops. But man, what a way to cap a marvelous career dissecting the Xs & Os.

Bravo, Verne.
