Gillian Anderson, who hasn’t exactly been setting the world on fire since her days on The X-Files, dropped a little nugget about how she was “in a relationship with a girl for a long time” in high school.
She says in an interview with Out magazine —
“If I had thought I was 100% gay, would it have been a different experience for me?” she wonders. “Would it have been a bigger deal if shame had been attached to it and all those things that become huge life-altering issues for youngsters in that situation? It’s possible that my attitude around it came, on some level, from knowing that I still liked boys.”
She also mentioned that she has had other lesbian relationships besides the one in high school, but being with women has “been the exception and not the rule.”
Anderson’s latest project has her set to star in a remake of Great Expectations, on PBS, so I guess when that’s where you’re career is at, after being one of the biggest stars in the world, playing the “I was a lesbian” card makes perfect sense.
