We have seen a lot of amazing gestures and donations from celebrities and athletes in the wake of the devastation caused by both Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma.
Another big name that’s been raising money for hurricane relief is none other than Beyoncé.
Following the massive amount of damage caused in Houston by Hurricane Harvey, Beyoncé launched BeyGOOD Houston.
“My heart goes out to my hometown, Houston, and I remain in constant prayer for those affected and for the rescuers who have been so brave and determined to do so much to help,” she said. “I am working closely with my team at BeyGOOD as well as my pastor (Rudy Rasmus at St. John’s in downtown Houston) to implement a plan to help as many as we can.”
Then, without any notice on Thursday night, Beyoncé did even more by dropping a new single and video with an announcement on Instagram that all proceeds from the song will go to hurricane relief charities for Puerto Rico, Mexico and the other affected Caribbean islands. She also included a link to her web site for more information.
The song is a a remix of reggaeton artist J Balvin’s song “Mi Gente” also featuring DJ Willy William. So far, as of this writing, the video has been viewed over 4.6 million times on Instagram and 1.8 million times on YouTube.
In addition to that, Beyoncé’s husband Jay-Z and his company Tidal will be holding a benefit concert at Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn on October 17th to raise money to assist in the recovery efforts from Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma.
