Jaime Lannister Reveals One Scene That Was Too Cruel And How Expensive Last Season Of ‘Game Of Thrones’ Is

There is no shortage of cringe-worthy and sometimes nauseating scenes from Game of Thrones. But for Nikolaj Coster-Waldau there is one particular scene that was so barbarous that it was too difficult for the actor who plays Jaime Lannister to even read it.

Coster-Waldau has completed his last scene for Season 8, “I’m not 100% done, but I’ve shot the last scene with me,” Coster-Waldau said. Yet we are still many months and maybe a year away until the final season of Game of Thrones to arrive. Coster-Waldau gave an interview to Variety this week at the 2018 Cannes Lions film festival.

He revealed the one scene that disturbed him greatly. The Kingslayer actor was shaken to the core by the Season 5 scene where Stannis Baratheon allows Melisandre to burn his own daughter Shireen alive. “I thought [it] was just cruel,” Coster-Waldau said. “It made sense story wise and I understand why they did it. But I just couldn’t watch it. It was difficult to even read it.” Coster-Waldau added that he was also very uncomfortable with the scene where Catelyn Stark’s sister, Lysa Arryn, breastfeeds her 10-year-old son Robin. “It was so weird and wrong on every level,” he added.

Jaime Lannister explained that showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff “couldn’t have done a better job” of how they ended the epic HBO TV series. However, that finale came at a very, very exorbitant price. “We spent twice as much shooting these six episodes than we did on two full seasons before,” he said. “No expense has been spared.”

The actor reminisced over his time as Jaime Lannister. “I don’t think it’ll ever be gone from my life. I’m going back to Belfast next week,” Nikolaj said. He added that “we haven’t had any a-holes on the show. It’s quite something.”
